Alverstoke Lawn Tennis Squash & Badminton Club is a family orientated, LTA affiliated, Members Club run by the members for the benefit of all – young and old of all levels and abilities. Whether it’s a thrilling tennis final, applauded point-for-point by partisan teammates, or a leisurely beer on the balcony, the club caters for all your racquet sports and social needs. The Club has much to offer its members and takes pride in the welcome it gives to new members. There is something for everyone and members are actively encouraged to participate in the running of their club. We can be found in Green Lane (see map below), so pop in and see us anytime! Tennis There are 9 outside tennis courts... 7 with the latest artificial grass surface, one being floodlit, and there are 2 hard, all-weather courts. In addition, there is an excellent indoor court allowing members to be able to play tennis in any weather at any time of day. The Club fields a variety of teams at both senior and junior level, who compete all-year-round in Hampshire and Isle of Wight league matches, as well as in national leagues. There is a strong junior section with Tennis Camps and other activities organised during the holidays by the Coaches. General Club Nights are held on Wednesdays from Easter onwards. Come and join in the social tennis scene. Coaching Head Coach is David Buzzard – LTA Senior Performance Coach. David has over 20 years experience in coaching all standards of player, including a large inner cities programme in Liverpool, up to international performing juniors. He was formerly Head of Performance at both The Hampshire Tennis & Health Club in Hedge End and The Exmouth Tennis & Leisure Centre in Devon. David learnt his tennis at Alverstoke and as a junior he represented Hampshire. He organises a wide variety of group coaching sessions as well as being available for individual tuition. Coach & Tennis Development Manager is Marie Buzzard – LTA Senior Performance Coach Marie has been coaching for 13 years and has vast experience in developing quality tennis programmes for all standards and organizations. Marie is an LTA Schools Tutor – she studied BSc Sport & Exercise Science at Chichester University and played to a national standard. Marie is involved in a wide range of group coaching sessions as well as being available for individual tuition.
Squash The Club has a strong Squash section with much to offer prospective members, both senior and junior. As well as friendly competition in the Club Leagues there is the opportunity to play in team matches in Hampshire and Isle of Wight Leagues. Both of the squash courts have recently undergone refurbishment. Coaching Coaching is available from Alex Philips who is a fully licensed England Squash Level 2 coach. Badminton Badminton Club Nights are on Thursday and Saturday evenings (please see below), although the courts can be booked at other times via the Club Office. There are a maximum of four courts available at any one time. This provides an excellent opportunity for both adult and junior players to test and develop their skills. Saturday - 5:30 to 7:00 Racketball Racketball is available using the squash courts and enjoyed by many, whatever their ages. Social
The Sports Bar is the ideal place to come along and have a drink and meet other members. A wide selection of drinks (hot & cold) and snacks are available. There is the opportunity of Social Membership for those who may wish to enjoy the use of the Sports Bar for a coffee or a drink (perhaps when accompanying their children to the Club) as well as participation in the social events. Latest news: Gosport Tennis Academy Open Day held on Sunday 17th January 2010 was a huge success. Simon Johnson, Tennis Development Manager for Hampshire & Isle of Wight said: “The team at Alverstoke have done a fantastic job in taking tennis to the local community. This Open Day is just the start of an exciting future for the club, which will include taking tennis to local schools, training teachers and bringing adults and juniors back to tennis.”
